I was born in Lebanon and immigrated to Canada as a child with my family. At fourteen, I went back to Lebanon to finish high school then returned to Canada for University, followed by law school at Syracuse University, because, clearly, at that point, I was already committed to the international man-of-mystery brand that absolutely no one was buying.
I went on to have a thoroughly unspectacular legal career, billing clients an ungodly sum by day and weep-sliding down my shower, questioning my life choices, by night.
To keep what was left of my sanity, I wrote. Short stories, screen plays, anything that didn’t include legal phrases like “commercially reasonable efforts” or “pari passu” in a contract (terms which I confidently billed for and to this day, still could not define under oath).
